THE Anambra State Board of Internal Revenue Services says it targets annual generation of N30 billion in the State.
Executive Chairman of the Board, Dr. David Nzekwu, stated this during a media engagement tagged, ‘Meet the Media’, in Awka.
The “Meet The Media’ which is the brain child of the Governor’s media team, is a media engagement that x-rays different aspects of Governor Willie Obiano’s administration.
Nzekwu who revealed that the Obiano-led administration met IGR generation of N8.7 billion when it assumed office in 2014, said that presently, Anambra generates about N26 billion annually.
He explained different areas of revenue administration in the state, noted that what they met was an informal situation not captured within the tax system, which was why they initiated the digitization to automate the entire process.
Dr. Nzekwu also explained that not withstanding the fact that other States have different sources of income, Anambra State last year still turned out the largest revenue generator after Enugu State.
The IGR Boss disclosed that presently, the Board is working on a Land Information Management System and have collected sixty four revenue heads on land alone.
He added that the Board recently created a Bill Generation and Distribution Department to enable their workers move around to distribute bills.
Dr. Nzekwu who urged Ndi Anambra to endevour to pay their tax as and when due because of its ripple effect on the economy.
He called on eligible beneficiaries of the 2019 tax refund gesture by Anambra State government, to come forward to claim theirs.
