RIVERS United FC will depart Port Harcourt on Friday for their First leg preliminary round of CAF Confederation’s Cup tie against Futuro Kings of Equatorial Guinea on November 28.
The club’s Media Officer, Charles Mayuku, made this known on Thursday in an interview with journalists in Port Harcourt.
“The team will depart for the City of Mongomo, Equatorial Guinea via a chartered flight for the match slated for Futuro de Mongomo Stadium, Mongomo, Equatorial Guinea.
“The match is slated to begin at 4pm local time (4pm Nigeria time) while the return will take place in Port Harcourt next week,’’ Mayuku said.
According to Mayuku, all Rivers United players and officials have undertaken the mandatory COVID-19 test ahead of the match.
“The results of the test expected to be released today will determine those who are free to embark on the tip to Equatorial Guinea for the 1st leg tie.
He also said that the Club’s General Manager, Okey Kpalukwu, expected the team to secure a decent result.
“The General Manager said that the support from the Rivers Government, the high spirit and winning mentality exhibited by the team in the build up to the game are expected to boost the team to secure a good result.
“Kpalukwu also assured that the team’s mission “is go there and get a decent result; we want to make the 2nd leg as easy as possible for us,” Mayuku said.
