The Maris Trust Council, MTC, has said that the Vice Chancellor, University of Delta (UNIDEL), Agbor, Prof. Stella Chinye Chiemeke, will be Guest Speaker at the upcoming Maris Annual Public Service Lecture.
Making the disclosure on Monday in Asaba, the Secretary, MTC, organizers of the annual lecture series, Comrade Fidelis Egugbo, stated that the choice of Prof. Chiemeke did not come easy as several persons from across the world suggested names of persons to deliver this year’s lecture which is billed to hold on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 from 12 noon at Asaba, Delta State.
He said, “We are pleased to announced to the general public that the Vice Chancellor, University of Delta (UNIDEL), Agbor, Prof. Stella Chinye Chiemeke, will deliver the year 2024 edition of Maris Annual Public Service Lecture.
“MTC met on Thursday, January 25, 2024, to look at the names and topics suggested by the public for discussion this year and the name of the Vice Chancellor, was chosen from the list of eminent personalities suggested for this year’s lecture and to the glory of God Almighty, she has accepted to deliver the lecture.
“It is gladdening to note that for this year’s lecture, we received more than thirty topics for discussion; we thank the public, especially, those who suggested names of likely Guest Speakers and topics for discussion this year; it is very encouraging to know that people from different parts of the world are looking forward to participating in this year’s lecture which will hold on its traditional date of Wednesday before Easter Sunday, that is, the Wednesday of the Holy Week.
“Prof. Chiemeke, is an exemplary educationist, astute administrator and a woman who has scored first in several areas, and she will be the first female Guest Speaker at Maris Annual Public Service Lecture series.”
Egugbo who is also, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Delta State, recalled that the present Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme, FCA, Chief Williams Makinde, Rt. Hon. Festus Ovie-Agas and Chief Fidelis Okenmor Tilije, had in the past, delivered the lecture.
He emphasized, “Prof. Chiemeke, is the first Professor of Computer Science in Delta State and the first Vice Chancellor, University of Delta, Agbor.
“She will be speaking at the lecture billed to hold on its traditional date of Wednesday before Easter Sunday, that is, for this year’s edition, it shall hold on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at Asaba.”
The Vice Chancellor belongs to various professional bodies both in Nigeria and abroad, among them is the Nigeria Computer Society, (NCS), where she is a fellow since 1999; she also, served as Director of Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Office (IPTTO) at the University of Benin.
