Council Chairman To Set Up Peace, Reconciliation Committee to Resolve Communal Crisis
EFFORTS at quelling the communal disturbances in Ogwu-Aniocha Community has started yielding results Newden can authoritatively report.
Chairman of Ogbaru Local Government Area, Hon. Arinzechukwu Awogu has put machinery in motion for the community to be back on path of peace.
Awogu spoke during a visit to his office by officers from Anambra State Police Command, Awka, who were investigating the gruesome murder of Mr. Chinagorom Oboshia and the wanton destruction of property in Ogwu-Aniocha Community.
He stated that beyond the security operations that is currently going on in the community, there was the need to reconcile all concerned in the community.
The Council Chairman told the visiting team that a peace and reconciliation committee made up of reputable individuals from Ogwu-Aniocha and beyond was being assembled to look into the protracted issues of the community with a view to finding lasting solution.
He appreciated the police for the professionalism in handling the Ogwu-Aniocha crisis, and asked them to release those who were found not to have directly or indirectly participated in the crisis that has led to the killings and destruction of property.
Hon. Awogu assured that lasting peace would be found in Ogwu-Aniocha through dialogue and forbearance, and that the council was ready to take the lead in the search for lasting peace in the community.
