A philanthropist, Chief Philomena Ededey Ugheminaye, will on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, attend this year’s edition of Maris Annual Public Service Lecture as a Discussant.
Chief Ededey who was a member of the 88 man Transition Committee of the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori administration, will be discussing the topic, “Flight of Talents: Navigating Nigeria’s Brain Drain Predicament.”
Secretary, Maris Trust Council, MTC, Comrade Fidelis Egugbo, made the disclosure in a statement that he made available to newsmen in Asaba, Delta State.
According to him, the Vice Chancellor, University of Delta, UNIDEL, Agbor, Prof. Stella Chinye Chiemeke will deliver the lecture while Chief Ededey will be discussing the topic with Dr. Barry Gbe, Special Adviser to the Governor of Delta State and two other persons.
Egugbo said, “We are happy to inform prospective participants at this year’s edition of Maris Annual Public Service Lecture series that a renowned philanthropist, Chief Philomena Ededey Ugheminaye, will be one of the Discussants at the lecture.
“Chief Ededey was a member of the Delta State Universal Basic Education Board, and a member of the transition committee of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori administration.
“Already, the Vice Chancellor, University of Delta, UNIDEL, Agbor, Prof. Stella Chinye Chiemeke, has accepted to speak on the topic, ‘Flight of Talents: Navigating Nigeria’s Brain Drain Predicament.’
“Also, former Commissioner for Economic Planning, Delta State, Dr. Barry Gbe who is presently, the Special Adviser to Governor Oborevwori will be one of the Discussants at the lecture.”
Chief Ededey, who is from Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State, is a Paul Harris Fellow of the Rotary Club, a graduate of Psychology from the University of Lagos, she holds a Master degree in
International Law and Diplomacy, and a Bachelors of Arts in Law from the Western Delta University, Oghara.
Chief Philomena Ededey Ugheminaye, has held different positions in Government of Delta State. She was a member the Governing Council, College of Education, Agbor, Chairman, Post Primary Education Board, Asaba, member Land Use and Survey Board, among others.
Chief Ededey who loves singing and dancing, gospel music and preaching the word of God, loves travelling to see interesting places and eating their tasty delicacies, is intelligent and engages in constructive discussions.
She has also, received numerous awards as a philanthropist and as a
role model to Youths in her LGA and in Delta State as whole. In 2007, she received an award of good Performance and Leadership, from News Forum International in Kaduna, she was then the Chairman of PPEB.
In that same year (2007), she received a Meritorious National Diamond Award
for Development because of her contributions to Socio-Economic Development of
Nigeria through her Educational Performances as Chairman, PPEB. The award was presented to her by Tam David-West.
As a Rotarian, it is said that a gold fish can never be hidden, she was noticed for her humanitarian contributions and was given a Distinguish Service Award towards the Growth of Youths and Humanity by Rotary International, (Retractor) DESPO District 9140 Nigeria and also bagged several other awards.
