THE member representing Ika North East State Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Anthony Emeka Elekeokwuri, has expressed great shock and sadness over the sudden demise of Rt.Hon.(Pastor), Prince Sam Obi, former Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly.
In a condolence message released on Saturday at his official residence, the Legislator extolled the charismatic and examplary qualities of the former Delta Speaker who was acting Governor of Delta State.
He described the late Prince Sam Obi as peace loving, kind-hearted and a worthy son of Ika nation, whose positive contributions and roles in Delta State will continue to be remembered.
In his words ” with great shock and deep sorrow, I, on behalf of the wonderful people of Ika North East State Constituency of Delta State, commiserate with the Royal family and the entire Ute-Okpu Kingdom on the sudden transition to eternal rest of their beloved son, Rt. Hon. (Pastor) Prince Sam Obi.
“It is undeniable fact that the late former Acting Governor was a giver, an epitome of integrity and a legislator par excellence whose charismatic and exemplary qualities will remain indelible in our mind.
“We have indeed lost a friend and brother.
“He will be greatly missed by many lives he touched while on earth.
“We take solace in the fact that he lived a purposeful life.
“It is my prayer that God Almighty grant his family, friends and Ika nation the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss and grant his soul eternal rest.”
News about the passage of Prince Sam Obi broke out on Saturday morning.
His passage took people by surprise as he was seen at the the year 2021 edition of Maris Annual Public Service Lecture held on Wednesday, March 31, 2021, in his usual candour as a statesman; he was seated before 12 noon and stayed till the end of the lecture.
Reactions have continued to trail his passage, Secretary to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Delta State Chapter, Engr. Dan Ossai in a condolence message to the deceased family, described the demise of Rt Hon Sam Obi as sad and painful, saying that departed Obi was a loving father and grassroot politician.
He said, “On behalf of my family , I mourn the passing away of a great man of substance, a Lion and loving Father.
“The news of his death came to me as a shock, especially now that the family, friends and state needed his fatherly and wise counsel.
“He was a man of faith who devoted his time in kingdom’s work.”
Hon. Engr Dan Ossai prayed God to accept the deceased’s soul and grant fortitude to the family and friends he left to bear the loss.
Also, Oteri Gloria Ekene said, “Hmmmmmm, it is so hard to say goodbye.
“Rest in peace great Oracle. Am so short of words.
“May God accept your soul.”
