FEDERAL GOVERNMENT has ordered the police to leave the Niger Bridge to ensure free flow of vehicular traffic on the facility.

Federal Comptrollers of Works in charge of Anambra and Delta States, Mr. Adeyemo Ajani and Moshood Jimoh respectively, made the position of the Federal Government known while inspecting the bridge.

They said, “We have alerted the Police Command to relocate the police post close to the bridge for easy movement of vehicles.

“The Federal Ministry of Works and Housing awarded the emergency repairs of the bridge to Matiere-Johnson Consortium Ltd on 6th August, 2013 with an extended completion date of 31st December, 2019.

“The emergency repairs had been substantially completed.

“We urge the public to disregard such rumour, purporting that the bridge is in danger.”

The Comptrollers maintained that the presence of the police on the bridge was the reason vehicles were static on it, thereby posing threat to the bridge, assuring that it was not in any structural danger.

Newsden gathered that the inspection visit was in reaction to an alarm raised by Nollywood Actor, Yul Edochie which went viral on social media that the bridge was shaking and may detach and collapse.
