THE Deputy Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Delta State, Chief Monday Onyeme, has said that for Nigeria to be great, people should be working for collective interest rather than selfish interest.
Chief Onyeme made the call on Wednesday in Asaba when the President of Market Men and Women Association in the state, Mrs Kate Onah led members of the association to pay him a solidarity visit.
According to him, it was sad that Nigerians are still complaining of those things that they were complaining about before independence in 1960.
“I want to thank market women and men for the honour, for being staunch loyal and supporters of the PDP.
“It pleases my heart that an association such as this, an association that is in charge of the market because, market is such a place that people have something to do, so, if an association such are this is supporting you, you have to be grateful to God
“It is not easy to build a society, for everyone to agree to support PDP deserve commendation.
“We got independence in 1960 and today, we are still complaining, the same complaint we were having before independence.
“Our challenges are as a result of talking about self rather than collective interest; we should reduce self acquisition and work for a larger society.
“Everybody desires that Nigeria should be good but, we must work for it.
“In some states of the country, the poverty index is 80 percent but in Delta, it is 6 percent beaten only by Lagos State in terms of poverty index, so, Delta is lucky.
“We must continue to be educated, continue to help ourselves for us to do better and we are going to get Vice President from Delta State which means something new will begin to happen in the state and the country.
“Our Governor, Sen. Okowa once he becomes the Vice President, we will see a lot of new things; if as a state Governor, we nicknamed him Road Master, you can imagine what we will experience in terms of infrastructure when he becomes the Vice President.
“Once he becomes the Vice President, a lot of persons will get political appointments, so, there will be a lot of openings for Deltans, so, we should support Alhaji Atiku Abubakar/Governor Ifeanyi Okowa presidency, because we will have nothing to lose but a lot to gain.
“Take this message to everybody in the country that it is a golden opportunity to reposition Nigeria, support everybody contesting on the ticket of the PDP, so that in this state, it will be 100 percent PDP.
“If we retain 100 percent PDP, the act of governance will be easier.
“I love wide margin victory, so, we should ensure that our next rival gets less than 5 percent of the votes cast; our Governorship candidate, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori is loved by all, he is experienced and will carry on with the good works of our Governor.
“I thank everyone of you, continue to support our party, as market men and women, tell everyone visiting the market the need to vote for PDP,” Chief Onyeme said.
Earlier, Mrs Onah had told Chief Onyeme that all that market men and women in the state are supporting all the candidates of the PDP in the 2023 general elections.
“As the patron of our association, we are here to tell you that market men and women have declared their support and loyalty to you.
“Market men and women in the state are for the PDP,” Mrs Okoh said.
The Chairman, PDP, Ndokwa West chapter, Ogbuefi Lucky Okuji was among those who witnessed the event.
