REV. Fr. Hilary Ibegbulem of the Catholic Church of the Ascension, Asaba, Delta State, has said, Christians should adhere strictly to the Commandments of God.
Delivering a Homily on Sunday morning at the Catholic Church of the Ascension, Asaba, Fr. Ibegbulem said, “If you love Him, keep His commandments.”
He noted that from the time of Mose to when Jesus Christ came, and till date, the emphasis is on keeping the commandments of God.
“Keep the commandments of God’; it is an injunction that we should apply the commandments in our lives.
“Moses enjoined the people of Israel to keep the Commandments of God; our Lord, Jesus Christ also, admonished us to put into practice, the commandments of God.
“Moses asked the people of Israel to keep the commandments of God so that they may live; it was the statement that he made before the Israelites entered the promised land.
“That advice came from an elder who had the interest of the people at heart.
“Add nothing to the commandments and don’t subtract; we should not trade the tradition of God with human tradition because, that will only lead us to paying lip service. It does not bring us closer to God if it does not reflect what we have inside of us.
“It is only the commandments of God that get us closer to God.
“We should be doers of the words of God, because, God sees and knows everything.
“The challenge is not in hearing, but, in doing the words of God.
“Let us always take the words of God to heart and do what He tells us; let us keep the commandments of God and take them to heart; if you love Him, keep His commandments,” Fr. Ibegbulem said.
The Holy Mass featured special thanksgiving by parishioners.
