A Catholic Priest, Rev. Fr. Hilary Ibegbulem, has urged Christians to always work towards eternal life rather than acquiring wealth that may serve as obstacle to them.
The Priest made the call on Sunday morning while delivering a Homily at the Catholic Church of the Ascension, Asaba, Delta State.
According to him, “the words of God tells us that we can be rich and lack wisdom.
“We should ask God for the wisdom to make the right choices.
“Wisdom is a gift from God that enables us do the right thing; it is also, one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
“We should know that we are not going to live in this world forever that is why we should choose wisdom instead of wealth.
“Someone was given the option between wealth and eternal life but, he chose wealth. That was a stupid decision.
“It is wrong to choose wealth instead of eternal life; seek eternal life, strive for eternal life.
“Our wealth can easily turn to our idol that we worship and thus, becoming an obstacle to eternal life that was why our Lord, Jesus Christ said that it is easier for the head of the Camel to pass through the eyes of the needle than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of God.
“He did not say that it is impossible for the rich man to enter the Kingdom of God, He said it will be difficult, and He added that nothing is impossible before God.
“We should avoid what will hinder us from entering the Kingdom of God; wealth is good but our life on earth is short and we should not be so attached to things that we have to the extent that we forget the work of God.
“We need to forgive one another; if we fail to forgive one another, we will lose eternal life.”
The Holy Mass which was well attended, also featured special thanksgiving by the parishioners.
