A Catholic Priest, Rev. Fr. Victor Ijeh, has said, to avoid temptation, Christians should love God and love their neighbours as they love themselves.
Delivering a Homily during the celebration of Holy Mass at the Catholic Church of the Ascension, Asaba, Delta State on Sunday morning, Fr. Ijeh noted that Christians should be strong in prayers and believe in the words of God.
He observed that through Eve, sin came into the world, and that the world was saved through the coming of Jesus Christ.
“If Jesus could be tempted, who are you not to be tempted? But, what is important is overcoming temptation
“First temptation started with satan giving apple to Eve; that was how sin came into the world.
“Temptation made Cain to kill Abel; Cain was angry that God accepted the sacrifice of Abel instead of his; anger is not good.
“Always bear in mind that the devil will tempt you and leave you to your faith; because there is repercussions for sins you commit.
“Adam and Eve were cursed, Cain was also cursed and because of sin, God regretted creating man which made Him to destroy the world with flood.
“He sent His son to become man because, man made sin to enter the world and with man, the world was saved; all that is required is for us to repent from our sin and believe in Him.
“Jesus was tempted, but He overcame temptation; repent and believe in Him, believe in the Gospel, we must know that man must not live by bread alone, remember that you are dust and dust you shall return.
“The devil is not so generous that he will give you without collecting, it can give you shoe and take your leg.
“Vanity upon vanity, all is vanity; you should live according to the words of God by loving God and loving your neighbours as yourself.
“Be careful.”
The celebration of the Holy Mass featured special thanksgiving to God by individuals and groups.
