REV. Fr. Victor Ijeh has said that unwanton killings and destruction of property can be stopped in Nigeria if the people can love one another the way Jesus loves them.
Delivering a sermon on Sunday morning at the Catholic Church of the Ascension, Asaba, Delta State, the Priest decried killing of people in the country, describing them as unnecessary.
“Where is the love when a young Nigerian was killed in Sokoto?
“Where is the Lord when you are hoarding people’s money when a lot of people are dying of hunger?
“If you love people the way Jesus loves you, it shows that you are a disciple of Jesus; love strengthens faith.
“Don’t make people feel pains, don’t make people die.
“Love makes all things new.
“The love of God made Him to create man in His image and likeness; He so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son.
“Even, during His travail, Jesus prayed for His persecutors because Love makes all things new.
“Jesus who is God revealed the new commandment with the parable of the Good Samaritan.
“Love people as Jesus loves you.
“It is not enough to say, love your neighbour as you love yourself because we have heard stories about people committing suicide which means that there are some people who do not love themselves.
“Love as Jesus loves you because Jesus said, ‘love one another as I love you.’
“No matter the situation, there is hope because Jesus loves you; love renews all things.
“People may hate you, people may betray you but in all you do, let love lead,” the Priest said.
