THE government of Anambra State has vowed to rid the state of illegal and fake revenue collectors.
Managing Director, Anambra State Internal Revenue Service, Dr. David Nzekwu, stated this while parading 13 suspected fake revenue collectors arrested along Ekwusigo -Ihiala area.
Parading the suspects, Dr. Nzekwu expressed regret that people cause hardship for their fellow individuals by imposing unnecessary levy upon them.
Dr. Nzekwu noted that none of the receipts they issued to people were from Anambra state government.
He said government has since appreciated that times are hard and decided to reduce the tickets by allowing only necessary ones, to aid development in the State.
He stressed government’s commitment to ensuring that those who still indulge in fake ticketing are apprehended as provided by the law.
Some of the suspects who spoke to our correspondent pleaded that they will not go back to the business again if allowed to go home.
They claimed to be lured by some persons to sell tickets and generate money for them.
Meanwhile, the suspects have been handed over to the legal department for more investigation and prosecution.
