GUNMEN were on rampage in Anambra State as the Governor of the state, Willie Obiano was celebrating the 7th year anniversary of his administration.
Barely 24 hours, unknown gunmen killed Naval and Police officers in Anambra State and staff of the Nigeria Correctional Services, (NCS), others were killed on Friday.
On Thursday, some Policemen and Naval officers were killed by unknown gunmen in two locations in the State, with their arms carted away and a Police van set ablaze.
This is happening while the Governor of the State, Chief Willie Obiano was celebrating his anniversary, with a boast of improving security architecture of State
It was gathered that, staff of Nigeria Correctional Service were escorting inmates to court in Ekwulobia, Aguata Local Government Area when they were gunned down on the way by unknown gunmen. The attack took place in Ekwulobia.
At about 4am on the same Friday, a Police Station in Ekwulobia was attacked by gunmen, but were quickly repelled by Policemen on duty.
It would be recall that Ekwulobia Police Station was among the Police Stations, which was razed down during the EndSARS protest, but was recently rebuilt.
Confirming the incident, the Spokesperson of Anambra State Police Command, DSP Ikenganyia Tochukwu said the incident was very unfortunate.
According to him, Police operatives swiftly responded and chased the hoodlums away and said investigation is ongoing to arrest the perpetrators of this act.
Reacting, the Public Relations Officer of Anambra State command of the Nigeria Correctional Services, Mr. Francis Ekechukwu who confirmed the attack, said that the Command has been devastated by the news of the attack.
“You know this (attacks) have been on for sometime now, but we never envisaged it will get to us. Yes, there was an attack on our men, and two persons were killed. One of them is our staff, but the other is not.
“We are still investigating. We will issue a press release about this soon, but for now, we are trying to unravel how it happened and to go after the criminals. It was a gun duel, but two people were killed as a result,” he said.
