THE Nigeria Police on Monday, confirmed a jailbreak in Kogi State.
Scores of inmates reportedly fled the medium Federal Correctional Centre (prison) in Kabba, Kogi State, following a jailbreak said to have been masterminded by unidentified armed men.
The incident occurred between late Sunday night and early hours of Monday, the police in Kogi State said while confirming the jailbreak.
An unspecified but very large number of the inmates have escaped from the medium Federal Correctional Centre in Kabba, Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of the State, the police stated.
Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Zone 8, Ayuba Edeh, while confirming the jailbreak on Monday, said that the Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Mr Idrisu Dauda and other heads of security agencies have since swung into action to tackle the situation.
It was gathered that gunmen attacked the centre, which is on the Kabba-Lokoja highway during operation that lasted from Sunday night until Monday morning.
The invading gunmen reportedly overpowered the military men on guard on the road leading to the correctional facility before launching an attack on the centre.
The gunmen also attacked the prison officers before proceeding to set all the inmates or prisoners free.
