Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has taken a tough stance on the ongoing indefinite strike by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) in the State, refusing to engage with the striking workers.

Despite the strike’s impact on the State’s judicial system, Prof. Soludo has stated that the workers will resume duties when they are tired, indicating a wait-and-see approach.

The strike, which began on July 15, 2024, is a result of the State government’s failure to implement the Consolidated Judiciary Salary Structure (CONJUS) and meet other demands of the union.

The strike has paralyzed activities in all courts across the State, including Awka, Nnewi, Onitsha, and Ekwulobia.

The union’s 21-day ultimatum, which expired last Thursday, was ignored by the Governor, prompting the strike.

According to the union’s circular, signed by Assistant Secretary Nwezi Ugochukwu, the strike was necessary due to the Governor’s inaction.

A visit to the State judiciary complex in Awka revealed a deserted and locked premises, with no signs of workers present.

The strike notice was circulated to all directors, deputy directors, assistant chief registrars, registrars in charge, and staff of the Anambra State Judiciary.T

The strike’s impact on the State’s justice system remains uncertain, as the State Governor’s silence continues.
