THE Cross River State Commissioner for Environment, Mr Mfon Bassey, has been arrested by men of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Newsden can authoritatively report that Bassey was arrested at his residence in Calabar on allegation money laundering.
He was arrested on Thursday and as at the time of filing this report, he is still being quizzed by the anti-corruption agency about fake contracts and forged documents to obtain funds.
It is also alleged that Mfon operated a proxy account with a bank through which he allegedly siphoned public funds.
Investigation revealed further that the commissioner was arrested in connection with allegations of fake contracts and forged documents to obtain funds for Cross Rivers State Governor, Ben Ayade’s younger brother, Frank Ayade.
His account officer at the bank was also said to have been apprehended by the anti-graft agency.
