THE government of United Arab Emirates has announced ammendment to some of its personal and family laws.
Effective immediately, the ammendment which was announced on Saturday, includes allowing unmarried couples to cohabitate, loosening alcohol restrictions and criminalizing so-called “honor killings,’ would improve the living standards for the country’s multicultural residents.
Men and women who are not married or related will be free to live together without any repercussions.
Also, drinking alcohol will no longer be an offence.
The government decrees behind the changes were outlined extensively in state-linked newspaper The National, which did not cite its source.
