DELTA was in joyful uproar on Tuesday morning as Governor Ifeanyi Okowa declared that he and his household have being certified free from COVID-19.
The Governor wrote on his Facebook wall, “My wife, my daughter and I have tested negative for COVID 19, along with other members of the family.
“We give God all praise and wish to appreciate all who have interceded for us in prayers.
“I appeal to all residing in Delta to obey all instructions/ regulations in our collective fight to stop the transmission of the virus. God bless you all.”
It would be recalled that the governor, his wife and daughter went into isolation on July 1, after testing positive to COVID-19.
Former Deputy Governor of Delta State, Chief Benjamin Elue told Newsden that, “this is a cheering news.
“Glory be to God for great things He has done, especially for saving our Governor and his family from this ravaging COVID-19 pandemic.
He prayed for the governor and his family to remain healthy, safe and blessed.
A Peoples Democratic (PDP) stalwart in the state, Chief Godwill Obielum, said, “God has answered our prayers.”
“This is good and we give God the glory.”
The Executive Assistant to the governor, Political, Mr Peter Idion said, “I congratulate our Governor and members of his family; we have to give thanks to God.
“This is a cheering news, we are so happy.”
Others who spoke to Newsden, also thanked God that the governor and members of his family were out from COVID-19 danger zone.
Several congratulatory messages were also posted on social media as at Tuesday morning.
Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr Olisa Ifeajika in a statement, said, “Delta Governor, Senator (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa, his wife, Edith and daughter have tested negative to COVID-19.”
Ifeajika recalled that the governor and his wife tested positive to the virus on July 1 and went into isolation for necessary treatment. Their daughter had tested positive to the virus a few days earlier.
“The governor gave God all the glory and praise and expressed appreciation to all Deltans and other Nigerians who interceded for the family in prayers.
“He appealed to all residents in the state to obey all instructions and regulations targeted at combating and stemming the transmission of COVID-19 in the state,’’ he said.
