PRESIDENT, Anambra State chapter of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief Damian Okeke-Ogene, has urged stakeholders in the state to sustain the decision to uphold the zone arrangement for the governorship position.
Speaking to journalists in Awka, he said this would further cement stability in the political system and entrench fairness and equity in state affairs as Anambra has already recorded commendable success under the arrangement.
The Ohaneze President noted that presently, tension, politics of bitterness and acrimony have been drastically reduced in the state while sense of maturity, unity and understanding have been promoted among the political class irrespective of party affiliation.
Chief Okeke-Ogene also noted that the zoning arrangement has equally reduced the cost of electioneering and discouraged the mind-set of winner takes it all.
He commended the traditional ruler of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe, the traditional ruler of Nnewi, Igwe Kenneth Orizu and other traditional rulers for remaining resolute in the affirmation of the zoning arrangement.
Chief Okeke-Ogene reminded politicians that members of the Ohaneze Ndigbo, State Elders Forum, traditional rulers and ASATU are not interested in contesting any political position but, rather, remain committed to the protection of the future of the State.
