DELTA State Governor, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, has charged members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to engage solely in activities that will strengthen the party.
The governor specifically urged leaders of the party to shun divisive tendencies and work as members of one indivisible family of the PDP.
Governor Okowa who spoke through the Chairman of the PDP in the state, Chief Kingsley Esiso at a grand reception organised in honour of Chief Fidelis Okenmor Tilije, Commissioner for Finance, Delta State urged members of the PDP including those who decamped from other political parties to the PDP at the event to live in unity.
Governor Okowa said, “I am happy to be in Ukwuani today to witness this great event to honour a very good friend and brother, Chief Fidelis Tilije; Chief Tilije is a wonderful man, he is very efficient in discharging his duties as a Commissioner.
“Chief Tilije takes his duties seriously as the Commissioner for Finance; people have testified that Chief Tilije is a giver, a philanthropist per excellence and he loves to assist the people.
“He should continue to do more; PDP in Delta State is a family, a winning machine; a family that has continued to do well for Deltans.
“It is your duty as leaders to unite the PDP family; stop politics of blackmail, pull him down or run down other leaders, that does not make you a leader, a leader seeks for peace and a united people.
“I appeal to you to continue to live as a family; the best thing that you can do is to unite PDP, not to divide PDP; PDP in Delta is a family and it pays better if leaders come together and take decision as a family.
“Honouring Tilije is honouring PDP, the government and people of Delta, and I thank and welcome those who have seen the good things in the PDP and have left their parties to embrace the PDP.”
Chief Tilije commended the organisers of the event stating, “what is happening today is not because of any individual that is an Ukwuani man, this is a time that the people decided that they will have a change.
“There is no faction in Ukwuani PDP, this is a unification reception and appreciation of Governor Okowa giving me a platform to perform.
“Where Governor Okowa goes, we will go; he is doing exceedingly well and he is the leader of the party and we should work for him to finish very well.”
Those who spoke at the event include Chief Isaac Onyesom, Chief Terry Otuya, Chief Leonard Esegbue including all the Councillors and members of the Exco of PDP in the area endorsed Chief Tilije as leader of the party.
Earlier, PDP Chairman, Ukwuani local government area, Engr. Patrick Kaine, said, “what we are experiencing today is more like a rally; everybody is happy because we are honouring someone who is making PDP work in Ukwuani land, Sir Fidelis Tilije.
“Chief Tilije has done very well for the party and to most of us as individuals; we are here to recognise him for what he has done and for what he is doing.
“By recognising what he has done is to spur him to do more.”
