MR Anthony Onukwu, has declared his intention to represent the people of Ward 9, West End, Oshimili South Local Government Area as their Councillor in the forthcoming local government elections in Delta State.
Onukwu, who made his intentions known during Ward 9 meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), promised effective representation of the people.
According to him, he will run an open-door policy and will carry everyone along to ensure the development of the area.
“As the Councillor representing Ward 9, I will give the people a strong voice in the Council.
“The joy about my aspiration is that I was born in this Ward and I am at home with the people, they are aware about what I can attract to them.
“I believe their choosing me to represent them will not be a misplaced priority, because, they are aware that my template for seeking to contest for the Councillorship position is all about putting the people first.
“I have been asked why I am contesting for the Councillorship position and the simple answer is that in our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party, it is all about following due process.
“We have worked for the party over the years, we believe in the ideology of the party and we are aware that power belongs to the people, so, when I was approached by respected party members to contest for the Councillorship position, I consulted widely before making up my mind to serve them in the capacity of Councillor.
“As an individual, I will not let the party down,” Onukwu, a political scientist said.
Chairman of the PDP, in the Ward, Mr Austin Mbeze, described Onukwu as an asset to the party.
He urged Onukwu to bear in mind that there are several other members of the party who may be interested in the position, expressing confidence that the most popular person would be chosen as the candidate of the party for the election.
