The Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme, has advocated the harmonization of taxes to encourage economic growth.
Sir Onyeme made the call on Wednesday when members of Hotel Proprietors Association of Nigeria, HPAN, Asaba branch, paid him a courtesy visit.
According to him, taxes should be streamlined between the three tiers of government to avoid indiscriminate taxation.
He observed that some of the challenges in taxation were as a result of local government councils contracting out tax collection and some of the tax collectors aplly crude means to realize their money.
“I can assure you that we shall do all that we can to encourage business activities in our state; we shall ensure that multiple taxation is reduced in our state,” he said.
The Deputy Governor, expressed joy that hoteliers and other investors in the state are having quick returns on their investments, stating that the Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration will continue to provide the enabling environment for investments to thrive.
Earlier, the President of the association, Mr Okey Ifejokwu, told the Deputy Governor that they were at his office to congratulate him as their former member.
They wished him well in office as Deputy Governor.
