The Deputy Governor of Delta State, Sir Monday Onyeme, FCA, on Wednesday, bagged award of Excellence.
The award was presented by the Asaba branch of the University of Calabar (UNICAL), Alumni Association.
Also, the Chief of Staff to the Delta State Governor, Hon. Johnson Erijo received award of Excellence during the 2023 Dinner and Award Night of the association held at Asaba, Delta State.
The deputy governor stated that the award would spur them to do more for humanity.
Onyeme who spoke through Erijo, commended the leadership of the UNICAL Alumni Association for considering them fit for the awards.
Chairman of the occasion and Head of Service, Delta State, Mr Reginald Bayoko, mni, in an address congratulated members of the UNICAL Alumni Association, Asaba Chapter for successfully arranging the event, despite the challenging times, saying it was a testament of their resilience, unity, and unwavering dedication.
Bayoko said that their efforts have solidified his belief that the University of Calabar was a breeding ground for exceptional talents and intellect, which no doubt, informed the presence of so many eminent personalities as products of the institution, and further confirmed that the University of Calabar has the legacy of nurturing distinguished intellectuals and leaders.
Bayoko said the unity had compelled him to reflect on the profound significance of alumni associations, which was not just a gathering of former students, but a dynamic network of professionals and ambassadors, carrying forward the ethos and values of their alma mater.
He added that through such endeavors, alumni associations would transform the wisdom acquired within academic halls into societal contributions, enriching both professional spheres and the broader community.
Earlier in his address, the President of the Unical Alumni Association, Asaba Branch, Mr Luke Mokwunyei, MNIM, ascribed the success of the ceremony to the continual sacrifice of dedicated members who ensured that the Asaba chapter was sustained.
He commended the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for the MORE agenda which serves as a fulcrum for the development of Delta State.
Mokwunyei, urged members of the association to encourage all graduates of UNICAL who are living in Asaba to participate in the activities of the Alumni association.
