A Catholic Priest, Rev. Fr. Hilary Ibegbulem, has charged Christians to prove that they are true followers of Christ with the display of love.
Delivering a Homily on Sunday morning at the Catholic Church of the Ascension, Asaba, Delta State, the Priest noted that Jesus Christ made it clear that love for one another was the greatest of all commandments.
He stated that expression of love goes beyond words but with actions.
“As Christians, you must desire the greatest gift which is love.
“We should desire love because it is the greatest gift; if we do not have it, we cannot give it out; without love, there is nothing we can achieve as Christians.
“The gifts of prophesy, wisdom, faith, miracle and several others are for the common good of the church which is the Body of Christ, but the greatest of all the gifts is love.
“Love is the basic gift all Christians should have; the gift of miracle, gift of prophesy can be given to individuals but, the gift of love is what every Christian must have because if we have other gifts and do not have the gift of love, we have nothing.
“We lose everything that we think we have if we do not have love.
“Love must be seen in our actions not by what we say; our love for God should be seen in our actions of loving our fellow human beings.
“When we love our fellow human beings, we treat them right.
“Do we love? If we love, what do we give out as Christians? Love is the mark Jesus Christ gave for us to be recognised; we cannot say we love and have enemies, keep malice, hate others, be unforgiving.
“We must let the world know that we are Christians by the display of love through our actions,” Fr. Ibegbulem said.
