THE Ugoani of Okpanam, HRM (Dr.) Michael Mbanefo Ogbolu, has described the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) scheme as a veritable tool for national unity.
Speaking on Saturday morning at the flag-off of Environmental Sanitation and Protection Communuty Development Service of the NYSC at Okpanam, Oshimili North local government area of Delta State, the Ugoani lauded the NYSC for having national sanitation day.
He noted that cleanliness is next to godliness and urged Nigerians to always dispose their refuse properly and imbibe the attitude of keeping their environments clean always.
The Ugoani thanked the NYSC members for their efforts and prayed for them before they commenced the sanitation exercise.
NYSC Inspector in the local government, Mrs Esther Atausi, thanked the Ugoani for personally receiving the Corps members whenever they visit him, noting that his fatherly role has inspired a lot of Corps members to bring out their best.
Also speaking, the President of the Environmental Sanitation and Protection CDs group, Mr. Zakariya Tunde Yekeen thanked the Ugoani, officials and the Corps members present for their support towards making the sanitation exercise successful.
The sanitation exercise was carried out starting from the Ugoani’s palace to the market square, Okpanam roundabout and the roadsides.
It included among other activities, clearing of grasses, clearing of blocked water channels and teaching the people on the need for personal cleanliness and hygiene.
They told the people that dirty environments bring about the spread of sicknesses like cholera, malaria and typhoid.
The people expressed their Joy and promised to join hands with the Corps members in their next exercise.
